Emoji House Listing Agent to 'Treat It Like Any Transaction'

Steven Merino     August 20th, 2019

The “Pink Emoji House, boasting a bright paint job and two robust emojis, has not only become the site of a legal battle battle for artistic expression but an investment opportunity. The Manhattan Beach home has been listed for sale.

The controversial paint job appeared shortly after the homeowner was found in violation of the city’s rental laws and was fined. Neighbors immediately felt it was a means of revenge, but the homeowner maintains that it was “for the purpose of being happy, being positive...it’s cute and quirky and kind of funny, and certainly was a time for the emoji.” The home is being listed for $1,750,000.

Erwin Pineda, CEO of 7 Day Listings recently interviewed Johnnie Steigler, listing agent for the  Southern California home. Here is the interview transcript:

Erwin Pineda: How did you come about this unique listing?

Johnnie Steigler: I sold the owner a couple of buildings in Long Beach in the past, she’s a past client of mine  and I did a really good job, and I’m an aggressive agent and she reached out to me and asked me to manage the transaction on the listing side.

EP: Now that you listed this property, have you gotten a lot of calls, a lot of action, from the neighbors? From anyone else?

JS: I had a few neighbors contact me and I have had a lot of activity, it’s only been live since yesterday (August 19th), but.. a lot of activity.

EP: It was listed before?

JS: It was listed before for  2,000,000, we’re now at 1,750,000 because the seller has become been more motivated, her plan is to 1031 exchange into a property out of state.

EP: What do you think of the price? Is that comparable right now?

JS: I think the price is very good!

EP: Now one of the problems with selling such a unique house, is obviously the paint, are the owners willing to paint it prior to closing ? Or do they want to sell it first before they do any of that?

JS: Any deal is up for discussion. But at this moment the property is to be sold as is.

“Any deal is up for discussion. But at this moment the property is to be sold as is.”

EP: Do you plan to hold an open house this week or next week?

JS: Right now, no open house, one of the units has a tenant so it will be submitted offers subject to inspection. We’ll select the buyers that are strongest, it’s still early in the listing.

EP: There’s no liens on the property?  There were issues with the neighbors vs  the owner, it was all over the news at one point, is it pretty clean as far as title goes?

JS: To my understanding.

Erwin Pineda: Any difficulties in listing a house like this, I know it’s infamous pretty much, a lot people drive by and take a look at the house,  look a loo’s , people interested in seeing a very strange house?

Johnnie Steigler: For me, as the listing agent, I treat it like any transaction and really that’s all I can say.

Now that the property is for sale, a new chapter begins for this unique house. Make an offer or buy this property:
